The Florida Ocean Alliance cordially invites you to attend the Oceans Day
Celebration here in the Capitol on February 13, 2002. This day has been
designated as Oceans Day in recognition of the importance of Florida’s ocean
resources and as a means to promote public awareness of Florida’s coasts and
ocean. Healthy oceans are critical for Florida’s economy to promote sustainable
resources for all Floridians. Events include:

An exhibit of ocean-related programs in the Capitol Rotunda.
3:00 p.m.
A legislative briefing by Dr. Sylvia Earle on “Ocean Priorities for
Florida,”
Knott Building, Room 117.
3:15 p.m.
A Proclamation by Secretary of State Katherine Harris to
honor Dr. Sylvia Earle. |
Dr.
Sylvia Earle is a world-renowned scientist, author, Explorer in
Residence at the National Geographic Society, former chief scientist
at NOAA, and one of Time Magazine’s Heroes of the Planet, who hails
from Florida. Dr. Earle will also be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award
by the Florida Ocean Alliance. |
Mote Marine Laboratory extends a special invitation to legislators and
other governmental officials to attend the Annual Legislative Seafood Reception
and meet Mote scientists and educators on February 13th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. at the 22d floor of the Capitol.
